A leading wellhead systems provider in the oil and gas industry required a safer, more precise method to refurbish tubing heads and Christmas trees.
The process involves threading and unthreading large, high-value components—including isolation sleeves and Enhanced Horizontal Christmas Trees (EHXT) assemblies—where even slight misalignment can:
- Damage threads
- Compromise sealing integrity
- Lead to costly rework or equipment failure
Additionally, the customer needed to:
- Handle extreme torque loads
- Maintain precise alignment with a rotating turntable
- Provide operators with real-time visual confirmation
- Integrate into an existing high-capacity inspection stand
Our Solution
Autoquip engineered a custom torque wrench lift system designed specifically for high-precision threading applications in wellhead refurbishment.
At the core of the solution is a lift-integrated torque system that synchronizes vertical motion, rotational control, and fine positioning with the customer’s turntable and tooling.

Air Spring Cushioning System
- Built-in air springs provide controlled compliance
- Cushions contact when mating isolation sleeve to EHXT
- Rechargeable via standard shop air after extended downtime
Integrated Visual Verification
- Alignment verified using customer-supplied GoPro and iPad
- Gives operators real-time confirmation of thread engagement
- Reduces risk of cross-threading
Advanced Operator Controls
Ergonomic control pendant includes: Emergency stop (E-Stop), Mode Selector, Directional Controls, X/Y Axis Adjustments
Safety & Motion Control
- Anti-coast hydraulic feature stops movement immediately when controls are released
