Automated VRC for AGV Rack System Retrieval and Storage
Autoquip engineered a cutting-edge solution for a company specializing in automated liquid handling systems. AGVs play a prominent role in the operation, moving pallets throughout the facility. The challenge was to improve their manufacturing workflow by integrating multiple systems. The ultimate goal was to create an automated solution that could accelerate the pallet storage and retrieval process.
Autoquip devised a custom solution using a 4 Post Mechanical Freight Lift that could accommodate the AGVs. Designed for maximum stability and minimal chain stretch, the lift featured dual-strand drag chain conveyors and a stability wheel to enhance load stability. This system allowed for precise, automated movement of AGVs and pallets, significantly speeding up the retrieval and storage workflow. The project needed a sophisticated control system to enable the AGVs to communicate with the VRC. OSCO Controls, an Autoquip Company, provided the additional expertise required to establish the necessary connectivity.
Integrated Automated VRC System for Distribution Center
In this project, Autoquip developed an automated system for a major retail customer, transforming their retail backroom into an efficient inventory storage and distribution center. The system included seven Vertical Reciprocating Conveyors (VRCs), integrated robotic assistance, and AGVs.
The VRCs were crucial in expediting processes, with five being allocated to the AGV Rack & Track System, while the other two were located at the Conveyor Loading Dock. This robot-centric integration resulted in more efficient inventory movement, allowing the customer to maximize storage and keep pace with the high demand for order fulfillment.
Custom Work Platform for Jet Engine Assembly
We showcased another innovative approach in a project for an aircraft engine manufacturer. The Autoquip team designed and manufactured two custom lift systems comprising three separate lift units managing different assembly operation functions.
The Engine Lift, a Double Pantograph scissor lift, raised engines to the mezzanine level. The automated Aperture Work Platform was designed with an open/close mechanism to fill the space gap around the engine, and the Kit Lift, a VRC materials lift, transported parts and tools to the upper level. This solution immediately improved the overall jet assembly process by creating a safer and more productive work environment for the employees.
Air-Powered Transport Lift for Spacecraft Manufacturing
In a highly specialized application, Autoquip designed a scissor lift with a mobile base for an engine crawler table used in rocket engine testing. The lift needed to be mobile and air-powered to comply with explosion-proof requirements.
The design included a mobile base with omnidirectional steering and a Tork T2 Scissor Lift capable of lifting 12,000 lbs. This custom solution was crucial in advancing the client’s engine testing capabilities.
