Mechanical Straddle VRC Transports Donated Goods to Three-Levels
Introduction
Mechanical freight lift transports donated goods to the upper-level storage areas.
Project Challenge
A Goodwill donation center faces the significant challenge of being overwhelmed by an influx of donations, creating a pressing need for efficient organization and storage. The sheer volume of donated items can lead to cluttered area, making it difficult to sort, categorize, and inventory goods in a timely manner. This situation can impede the center’s ability to process donations effectively, impacting its capacity to serve the community and manage resources efficiently. For one center, a solution was needed to transfer sorted goods to their upper-level mezzanines for inventory storage.
Our Solution
In collaboration with our dealer, McKinley Equipment, we designed a three-level mechanical straddle VRC freight lift with flexible loading patterns to accommodate access requirements within their facility. The VRC has a front load pattern at the ground and third level, with the second level being a rear load. This 2-post mechanical straddle design features a larger carriage size, enabling the efficient transfer of deep loads and supporting their consistent, repeatable operations.

The Results
The implementation of the mechanical straddle VRC freight lift has significantly streamlined Goodwill’s goods transfer process. By efficiently moving deep loads, the lift has improved the organization of goods and facilitated smoother transfers to the storage area, enhancing overall operational efficiency.
